How it works
PicoWay is an advanced picosecond laser that delivers ultra-fast energy pulses to treat a range of skin concerns effectively.
Picosecond Technology
PicoWay lasers emit pulses lasting just a trillionth of a second (a picosecond), making them one of the fastest and most precise laser treatments available. This speed allows for highly efficient pigment and tattoo removal with minimal impact on surrounding skin.
The laser energy targets and breaks down unwanted pigmentation or tattoo ink into tiny particles without damaging the surrounding tissue. The body’s natural healing process then flushes out these fragmented particles, leaving the skin clearer, smoother, and rejuvenated.

Prep+ Aftercare
During your consultation, your SILK Laser technician will guide you through every step of your PicoWay laser treatment, ensuring you are fully informed and prepared.
Your free consultation will include:
✔ A visual skin assessment to determine suitability for treatment.
✔ Discussion of any previous treatments and your skin history.
✔ Explanation of how the laser works and what results to expect.
✔ Pre-treatment preparation guidelines to optimise your results.
✔ Aftercare recommendations for long-lasting benefits.
✔ Possible side effects and how to minimise risks.
✔ A personalised treatment plan, including pricing options.
In most cases, you can proceed with your first treatment during the consultation.
If any red flags arise during your assessment, your SILK Laser Specialist may recommend a Test Patch before a complete treatment to ensure your skin responds well.
To achieve the best results and minimise risks, it’s important to follow these pre-treatment guidelines:
✔ Avoid sun exposure for at least 4 weeks before and during your treatment plan. Sun exposure increases the risk of burning, blistering, and pigment changes, such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (darkening) or hypopigmentation (lightening).
✔ Do not use a fake tan before treatment, as artificial pigments can interfere with laser effectiveness. On the day of your appointment, ensure the treatment area is clean and free of makeup, lotions, and artificial pigments.
✔ Arrive 10 minutes early for your initial consultation to complete any required paperwork and allow time for a thorough assessment by your SILK Laser Specialist.
Following these steps will help ensure a safe and effective PicoWay treatment experience.
Following your PicoWay laser treatment, it’s normal for the treated area to feel warm and slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn. This typically lasts between 2 to 12 hours, though in some cases, it may persist for up to 48 hours. Please contact your SILK Laser Clinic for further guidance if irritation continues beyond this period.
Post-Treatment Care
✔ Avoid heat and moisture exposure – No hot showers, baths, pools, spas, saunas, or intense exercise for at least 48 hours. If the area still feels warm or irritated, extend avoidance until symptoms subside.
✔ Apply SILK Soothing Gel every morning and night for 7 days. This essential aftercare product is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal, helping to soothe and protect the skin.
✔ Reapply SILK Soothing Gel throughout the day as needed to keep the treated area hydrated and comfortable.
Following these aftercare steps can optimise healing and enhance your results while minimising any potential discomfort.
Pico Laser FAQs
PicoWay is an advanced picosecond laser technology that delivers ultra-short pulses of energy to treat a variety of skin concerns. It is highly effective for pigmentation issues, acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and tattoo removal, providing fast results with minimal downtime.
PicoWay lasers use picosecond pulses to target and break down pigmentation and tattoo ink while stimulating collagen production. This promotes skin renewal, improves texture, and reduces discolouration, leaving the skin smoother, clearer, and more youthful.
PicoWay is effective for addressing:
✔ Pigmentation concerns – Sunspots, freckles, and melasma.
✔ Tattoo removal – Effective for all ink colours, including stubborn shades.
✔ Acne scars – Helps smooth uneven texture.
✔ Fine lines & wrinkles – Stimulates collagen for firmer skin.
✔ Skin rejuvenation – Improves overall complexion and radiance.
✔ Stretch marks – Helps fade discoloration and improve skin elasticity.
✔ Hyperpigmentation & skin laxity – Enhances tone and firmness.
Yes, PicoWay is an FDA-approved and TGA-cleared treatment. It is suitable for most skin types and designed to minimise discomfort and risk while effectively treating a wide range of concerns.
The number of treatments depends on the concern being treated:
- Pigmentation concerns: 1–3 sessions.
- Acne scars & wrinkles: Multiple sessions for best results.
- Tattoo removal: Varies based on ink type and depth (usually 4–8 sessions).
Your SILK Laser technician will create a personalised treatment plan during your consultation
PicoWay has minimal downtime. You may experience mild redness or swelling immediately after treatment, but this typically subsides within a few hours. Most clients can resume daily activities on the same day.
Results vary depending on the concern being treated:
- Many clients see noticeable improvement after just one session.
- More complex concerns like acne scars or tattoo removal may require multiple treatments for optimal results.
Most clients experience mild discomfort, often compared to the sensation of a rubber band snapping against the skin. The treatment is generally well-tolerated, and a numbing cream may be applied to sensitive areas to enhance comfort. The PicoWay laser’s ultra-fast pulses help minimise heat buildup, making it more comfortable than traditional laser treatments.
Yes, you can resume most normal activities immediately. However, to achieve the best results, we recommend:
- Avoiding direct sun exposure for at least 48 hours.
- Skipping strenuous activities (such as exercise and saunas) during the initial healing phase.
Yes, PicoWay is safe for most skin types. However, a consultation is required to assess your skin and create a customised treatment plan. For skin types 4–6, specific skin preparation may be recommended for the safest and most effective results.
