SILK Medical Grade Laser Hair Removal vs IPL
So, What’s the difference?
The key difference between these two hair removal treatments is that IPL (Intensed Pulse Light) uses a broad spectrum of high-intensity light, which is emitted at multiple wavelengths, whereas SILK Candela laser (GentleYag Pro and GentleLase Pro) emits a single, focused and precise wavelength that’s optimised for maximum follicle absorption.
As laser has a more precise wavelength than IPL, results are achieved with significantly fewer treatments overall and less risk when treating for laser hair removal.
When considering Laser Hair Removal your SILK Laser and Skin technician will consider the thickness and darkness of the hair being treated. This is because the laser is attracted to pigment in the hair follicle — so will destroy pigmented hairs. This is also why best results are achieved on non-tanned skin where there is a variance between the skin colour and the hair colour.
This means that it is not as effective on blonde or grey hair.
Is Laser Hair Removal permanent?
On average 10% of hairs are attached to the follicle at any given time as there are several natural growth hair cycles. To target each hair cycle, we recommend 10 treatments to achieve optimal results. Then a follow up treatment once or twice a year after that to maintain results.
Why you should go to a clinic with the appropriate credentials.
Medical grade lasers or IPL devices in the wrong hands can be dangerous. SILK Laser and Skin Technicians are fully trained with qualified educators. Pre and after care is recommended to soothe the skin and aid in the hair follicles falling out after treatment.
Test patches are sometimes recommended to ensure results are achieved for every client.
