Discover EMSCULPT® – a ‘Game-changer’ for Diastasis Recti

Have you experienced Diastasis Recti (stomach separation)? This condition refers to the partial or complete separation of the rectus abdominus muscles – the large ‘six pack’ muscles which usually meet in the middle of your stomach. Most (if not all) women will experience some degree of ab separation by the third semester of their pregnancy. You can have a minor amount of ab separation and not even realise it, however, it’s generally considered Diastasis Recti if the separation is greater than 2.7cm. One study found that up to 60% of women may experience Diastasis Recti during pregnancy or postpartum. While not common, the condition can sometimes occur in newborns and men as well.

What are the symptoms:

    • The most common and noticeable is a bulge (or ‘pooch’) in your stomach.
    • Poor posture and lower back pain.
    • Bloating and constipation.
For some women, the condition will correct itself naturally or with some exercise and physical therapy. It’s estimated that 1 in 3 mums will still have it at 1 year postpartum. For those new to Diastasis Recti, prepare to surprised… The severity is often measured by how many fingers you can fit inside the muscle separation! If the gap is 2 – 3 fingers wide, your condition is considered mild or moderate and you have a good chance of improvement but it will likely take ongoing exercise over some time. For gaps of 4+ fingers and / or there is a hernia present as well, then treatment is a bigger challenge. Some Diastasis Recti is so severe that Abdominoplasty surgery (aka a Tummy Tuck) is the only option to fix the separation. Aside from being major surgery, it’s also still considered cosmetic surgery and the high cost is generally not covered by Medicare or insurance.
Diastasis Recti Non Surgical Treament

This is where EMSCULPT® comes in…

EMSCULPT® is the only non-invasive device treatment that is clinically proven to reduce Diastasis Recti by an average of 11%. The treatment uses HIFEM (high intensity focused electromagnetic) technology to induce supramaximal contractions. Equivalent to 20,000 sit-ups each 30-minute session, EMSCULPT® builds and strengthens your core muscles as well, all with no needles and no downtime. This added core strength supports further rehabilitation exercise and further treatments and may also improve pelvic floor strength.
“I feel my core is stronger and tighter during exercise. I have also noted a massive improvement in my ability to control my pelvic floor, something that I didn’t expect. I used to experience light leakage during heavy physical exercise, and I haven’t experienced that at all since having my EMSCULPT® treatments!” Alex, EMSCULPT® patient
