At SILK, we are very excited to lead the body sculpting movement, offering two services, EMSCULPT® and CoolSculpting®.

EMSCULPT® and CoolSculpting® are non-invasive treatments that utilise advanced technology and deliver effective results with little to no downtime. Both devices work to target areas of the body to enhance contour, shape or tone. However, the devices, technology and treatments are very different, delivering two distinct results depending on your body goals.

We’ve compared the treatments below, to help you decide which device is for you depending on your muscle building or fat reduction goals!

Technology

EMSCULPT® uses HIFEM (high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy) technology to build muscle and burn fat. One 30-minute treatment induces 20,000 supramaximal (deep and intense) muscle contractions, the equivalent of 20,000 sit-ups or squats. By forcing your muscles to contract, EMSCULPT® essentially forces you to work out. Scientifically speaking, EMSCULPT® creates hypertrophy and hyperplasia. This means the treated muscles increase in both volume and the number of muscle fibres evident.

CoolSculpting® works on the science of cryolipolysis. It uses innovative technology to deliver controlled cold temperatures via an applicator to target fat cells. The frozen fat cells reach a specific temperature level, and then crystallise. The crystallisation process destroys the fat cells permanently. CoolSculpting®’s precise technology ensures that whilst the targeted areas are frozen, the skin around the treated area is spared from any effects of the freezing.

Treatment areas

EMSCULPT® treats key muscle areas including the abdominal muscles, glutes, arms and calves.

CoolSculpting® treats areas of stubborn fat including the stomach, love handles, double chin, inner and outer thighs, arms, back, buttocks, bra fat and more.

Comfort Level

EMSCULPT® and CoolSculpting® are both easy to tolerate, non-invasive treatments.

EMSCULPT® delivers contractions that are strong and intense. However, it definitely doesn’t hurt.

When it comes to CoolSculpting®, most clients find that CoolSculpting® doesn’t really hurt. It can be little uncomfortable and cold, but not painful.

Safety

Well-established in safety and efficacy, both EMSCULPT® and CoolSculpting® align with the rigorous health, safety and quality standards we follow at SILK. All SILK body sculpting technicians are fully trained and certified. You are in safe hands at SILK.

Treatment time

At SILK, you’ll have four 30-minute EMSCULPT® sessions over two weeks. After your required four treatments, we recommend maintaining your muscle strength with top-up treatments of EMSCULPT® – to suit your current exercise regime and budget.

CoolSculpting® is a highly customised procedure and treatment times vary depending on the treatment area and volume of fat to be treated. You may need multiple treatments to achieve your ideal outcome. Your Certified Body Specialist will discuss this with you at your consultation.

Results

EMSCULPT® results are noticeable two to four weeks post-treatment and continue to improve up to eight weeks later. Whilst EMSCULPT® will still deliver results without engaging in exercise, the treatment works best when combined with regular physical exercise. Muscles reduce overtime if they aren’t used. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will offer the most effective, long-lasting results.

When it comes to CoolSculpting®, visible results develop between two and six months after treatment. Destroyed fat cells continue to naturally leave the body up to four to six months post-treatment. With CoolSculpting®, results are permanent – once fat is treated, it’s destroyed for good!

Side effects

EMSCULPT® has no side effects. In between contractions, a gentler pulsing cycle occurs to remove lactic acid build-up and eliminate any DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) that generally appears in the day or two after exercise, so there is no downtime at all.

With CoolSculpting®, it is totally normal to experience sensations of pulling, intense cold, tingling, stinging and aching at the treatment site. These feelings generally settle as the area becomes numb. Post-treatment, possible side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, skin sensitivity and numbness. These effects are temporary and generally resolve within days or weeks.

Cost of treatment

An EMSCULPT® Treatment Package includes a total of four sessions per treatment area, over two weeks. View EMSCULPT® pricing.

During your CoolSculpting® consultation, your Certified Body Specialist will advise you on what to expect during treatment and costs based on the applicator, number of cycles and treatment sessions required. View CoolSculpting® pricing.
