Laser hair removal session and removing fake tan

We love laser because it eliminates the need for painful waxing and time-consuming shaving, combined with long-lasting results – what’s not to love? The key to the best laser results is ensuring you’re consistent with your treatments and closely following our expert recommendations pre- and post-care.

How does laser hair removal work?

The laser hair removal process works on the absorption of light by the hair pigment, which then transforms into heat to eliminate the hair follicle. Laser treatments can effectively work on most skin types as long as the hair is darker than the skin.

Why is it unsafe to wear fake tan during a laser treatment?

The device is unable to differentiate between your skin and hair pigment. The best laser results are when there is a strong contrast between the pigments and the most effective on dark hair against a lighter skin tone.

When self-tanning products are present, they become a target for the laser. If the skin surface is darker than your natural colour, the laser’s energy may be absorbed into the skin, potentially resulting in reduced results.

How to best prepare for a laser appointment

Remove fake tan as well as makeup, lotion, deodorant, and creams (we have wipes for you just in case)

Exfoliate the skin

Shave the treatment areas within 24 hours before your appointment

Avoid sun exposure for 2-3 weeks beforehand

What should I do if I have fake tan on before my treatment?

Thoroughly exfoliate the areas to remove any fake tan residue and dry skin cells.

Can I fake tan following my laser treatment?

Yes – Fake tan only needs to be removed from the areas you are treating and can be reapplied 2-3 days after treatment to avoid irritation.
